Brief History

The Cliff & Bunting Company was founded by Harry Cliff, who arrived from England in 1882, and Johnathon Craven Bunting, also from England.

The Cliff & Bunting Traction Engine was built at the North Melbourne works, Australia circa 1907.

Cliff & Bunting were agents for Kelly Traction Engines, manufactured in Springfield, U.S.A. and it appears that they utilised some of the Kelly features into the Cliff & Bunting Traction Engine.

The Company was sold to the Baltic Simplex Machinery Co. on the 7th of July, 1955.

The photograph on the right is thought to be the original built as it shows some of the Kelly features including left hand drive.
